Rose Petals (Red) (Rose Centifolia)

All our herbs come from certified organic sources or trusted wildcrafters.

Standard: Rose Petals
Also known as; provence rose, cabbage rose, rose de mai

LATIN NAME: rose centifolia
Plant Family: Rosaceae

PART(S) USED: Fresh or Dried Flower Petals.

OVERVIEW: Centifolias, also known as the Cabbage Rose, are defined by their thin, delicate petals which overlap to form globular blooms that extend from long drooping canes. These roses have a tendency to "hang their heads" with the weight of their blooms. The Centifolias flaunt pink, and occasionally white blossoms accented by its grayish green leaves. With a sweet honey scent, this rose will leave a lasting memory in the hearts of every gardener.

In traditional medicine, Rose petals have been used in many ways for a variety of conditions. Curanderos use Rose petals to invoke feminine energies and spiritual protection. Traditional healers applied Rose petal paste on wounds and the body to speed healing, decrease sweating, and in tincture and tea for gastritis, regulating the bowel, controlling acidity, preventing scurvy (it has more vitamin C than citrus), and has been used in oil form for aromatherapy, as well as in the cosmetics industry. Fresh rose contains plenty of vitamin C. Unfortunately, processing and drying of the plant destroys most of it.

PREPARATIONS: Keep dry. Store in an airtight container in a dry cupboard away from light. Will keep for many years.
