OVERVIEW: Chamomile is a gentle herb known throughout most of the world, which has been used continually for many centuries. It is often ingested as a tea for calming purposes and to soothe the digestive tract and is mild enough to be administered to babies. Chamomile is soothing to the skin and is often found in lotions and hair products. It is also known as Matricaria recutita and by its synonym Matricaria chamomilla. A member of the Asteraceae family, these aromatic herbaceous plants have white daisy like flowers and scent reminiscent of apples or pineapple.

TRADITIONAL USES:  Chamomile has been traditionally used to treat a variety of ailments, including digestive issues, respiratory function, and relief of stress and tension. The plant is also used cosmetically in hair products to accentuate and lighten blonde hair, and in skin products for a soothing effect. Chamomile can either be made into a tea, used in a bath, or even keeping it in a satchet under your pillow to promote restful sleep.

PRECAUTIONS & CONTRAINDICATIONS:  Use of chamomile is not recommended for those with allergies to similar plants (other members of the Asteraceae family). Consult a healthcare practitioner before use, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have any allergies, or are on any medications. Avoid contact with eyes.
