OVERVIEW: Common sage is a low-growing evergreen shrub in the mint family that can be found worldwide. It is common kitchen seasoning and was historically used in traditional European herbalism for its healthful properties. The herb's Latin name salvia is derived from the Latin word to heal.  

TRADITIONAL USES: Traditionally, Sage is used in herbal medicine to treat digestive issues, as well as menopausal symptoms and high cholesterol. It has also been sometimes used in a cream to treat cold sores. 

PRECAUTIONS & CONTRAINDICATIONS:  Sage Leaf is only recommended for short term use and in food amounts, as it contains the chemical thujone which can be poisonous in large amounts. Do not use this herb if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have any seizure disorders such as epilepsy. Consult a healthcare practitioner before use, especially if you are diabetic, have low blood pressure, are on any medications (especially those for the conditions listed above, as well as Anticholinergic medications, blood pressure medications, antidiabetics, or any medication changed by the liver), or have any allergies, especially to plants in the Lamiaceae family (such as mints, rosemary, and many other culinary herbs).
