OVERVIEW: While commonly referred to as berries, the Juniper Berry is actually the seed cone of the Juniper tree. While the berry is too bitter to be eaten raw, Juniper berries are often dried and used to flavor meats, sauces, and other foods. Traditionally, the berries have been used in Indigenous herbal medicine to aid a variety of ailments.
TRADITIONAL USES: In traditional herbal medicine, Juniper berries have been used to treat problems with the digestive and urinary tracts.
PRECAUTIONS & CONTRAINDICATIONS: Do not use Juniper Berries if you are pregnant or have a kidney disorder. Consult a healthcare practitioner before use, especially if you are breastfeeding, on any medications, or have allergies, especially to plants in the cupressaceae (cyprus) family (including redwoods and cedar).
