OVERVIEW: Sheep Sorrel may be largely considered a weed, but it has been used as a spice and for its beneficial properties for centuries. Native to Europe and Asia, sheep sorrel now grows abundantly throughout the Northern Hemisphere. Sheep sorrel herb, sometimes spelled sheep sorrel, can be infused for topical use, steeped as tea, or added to culinary dishes as a tart flavoring.
TRADITIONAL USES: Sheep Sorrel has been traditionally used to treat the symptoms of sinus infections and other respiratory illnesses.
PRECAUTIONS & CONTRAINDICATIONS: Consult a healthcare practitioner before use, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have any allergies (especially to plants in the polygonaceae family), or are on any medication. Children should never be given more than small amounts, as Sheep Sorrel contains oxalic acid, which is potentially unsafe for children in high amounts. In adults, large amounts of Sheep Sorrel may increase the risk of kidney stones.
