LATIN NAME: Cornus sericea (formerly Cornus stolonifera)
PART(S) USED: Inner bark
OVERVIEW: Red Willow Bark, often referred to as "can'sa'sa", is made from the inner bark of the red osier dogwood. This bark is traditionally used in the sacred pipe, either on its own or blended with other herbs. Red Willow Bark has also been known to reduce pain and inflammation as it contains salicylic acid.
PREPARATIONS: Red Willow Bark has been used in smoking mixtures, or chewed in small amounts to reduce pain and/or inflammation.
