Our *PREMIUM* Nettle Leaf is locally grown in Québec and is certified organic!
ALSO KNOWN AS: stinging nettle, nettle
PLANT FAMILY: Urticaceae
PART(S) USED: Dried Leaves
OVERVIEW: Stinging nettles are herbaceous perennials that thrive in wet climates and moist soils. Nettles earn their name from the tiny hairs found on the leaves and stems that cause a stinging sensation upon contact with skin. Nettles have been used for centuries in a variety of countries and cultures.
TRADITIONAL USES: Nettle Leaf has been traditionally used in herbal medicine as a diuretic, to relieve symptoms of pain conditions such as osteoarthritis, and to relieve symptoms of seasonal allergies. Some preliminary research suggests that Nettle Leaf may also reduce blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes, but there is not yet enough information to prove its effectiveness. Nettle Leaf can also be cooked and eaten as a vegetable similar to spinach.
PRECAUTIONS & CONTRAINDICATIONS: DO NOT use Nettle Leaf if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as it can potentially stimulate premature uterine contractions. Consult a healthcare practitioner before use, especially if you are diabetic, have low blood pressure, or have any kidney problems; are on any medications (especially antidiabetics, antihypertensives, sedatives, anticoagulants, or Lithium), or have any allergies, especially to plants in the Urticaceae family.
