OVERVIEW: Gentian is an herb from the Alps and the Himalayas. The roots take 7 to 10 growing seasons to mature. The botanical name Gentiana is derived from Gentius, king of ancient Illyria (modern day Bosnia) (180-167 B.C.E.), who discovered its therapeutic values, according to a history written by Pliny the Elder (ca. 23-79 C.E.)  

TRADITIONAL USES: Gentian root has been traditionally used to treat digestion problems and sinus infections (sinusitis). It has also been used in food and drink preparations, including liqueurs and sodas more commonly found in Europe. 

STORAGE: Keep dry. Store in an airtight container in a dry cupboard away from light. Will keep for many years 

PRECAUTIONS & CONTRAINDICATIONS: Consult a healthcare practitioner before use, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are on any medications, especially those for low blood pressure. Discontinue use two weeks prior to any surgery.
